Vegetable and beef soup

A rich warm flavorsome beef and vegetable soup recipe that is sure to please all.



Ingredients:

1 beef soup bone, cracked
2 pounds/ 0.9 kg beef for stew
4 uncooked chicken pieces
1 teaspoon salt
a pinch black pepper
1 small clove garlic, peeled and minced
6 tablespoons regular barley
3 large carrots, chopped
2 medium potatoes diced
2 to 3 stalks celery chopped
1 turnip chopped
½ cup fresh green peas or cut green beans
3 quarts/ 3 litres water
1 quart or 2 lb / 900 g canned tomatoes, drained
1 cup chopped raw cabbage
½ cup canned corn, drained
2 tablespoons prepared gravy
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon celery salt
½ teaspoon onion salt
¼ teaspoon garlic salt

Method:
Put beef bone, meat and chicken in a large electric cooker. Add salt, pepper, garlic, barley, carrots, potatoes, celery, turnip, peas and water. Cover and cook on Low 10 – 12 hours. Remove bones from soup. Add remaining vegetables and seasonings to cooker, mix. Cover and cook on High 30 – 45 minutes.

Makes about 4 quarts/ 4 litres of soup
